Done, Doing, and to Do
DC Hideouts
When I'm not on the computer, chances are I'm at one of the following:
- Rendezvous Lounge (Adams Morgan) - serving me well for 10 years
- The Raven (Mt. Pleasant) - serving me Miller High Life well
- Rough and Ready Furniture (U St) - seeking out neglected furniture
- My balcony or rooftop
- Marie Reed Center, swimming laps
- A soccer field somewhere in the DC Metro area
- Underground - on the subway
- On foot, burning through my sneaks
- On wheel, my two wheel Dawes SST bicycle
Invisible To All Except Those That Are Lost
I walk to and from work everyday. The round trip is about 3.5 miles. I'm amazed by the lack of courtesy people show on public sidewalks--especially pairs and groups. They rarely break to share the walkway. Instead, so wrapped up in their stroll/conversation, they expect those moving in their counter stream to stray into the "shoulder". I'm convinced I have the power of invisibility, but it only works on public sidewalks. (On most days I'm beyond the adolescent behavior of laying in a good shoulder.)
However, lost individuals are apparently immune to my invisibility power. In fact, I think I must also have the power of magnetism for those that are lost. I'm aggressively sought out to answer the likes of "where is..." "how do i..." and "am i heading...". It happens without fail whether I'm alone, in a pair, or a in loosely clustered group of strangers. In a few circumstances, when I've been in a small heard of strangers, a person has flagged me for help and by passed others. Mind you, I'm almost always wearing headphones and that's not necessarily true of the surrounding strangers. In any case, I like to assist.
