// Specialties

Website Design and Development

Tarek has contributed to the conceptualization, design, and development of nearly 50 websites. My projects have included websites for agencies of the Federal government, numerous nonprofit organizations such as a think tank and large international foundation, indviduals, and a handful of small businesses. My experience spans small sites with a modest amount of traffic and infrequent updates, to sites with daily updates and traffic exceeding 50,000 visitors per month.

Website Maintenance -- Webmaster For Hire

Tarek serves as a remote webmaster for numerous websites. I serve as the sole webmaster for organizations that don't need or can't afford a full time staff person. In other cases, I complement organizations' internal staff by offering specialized expertise.

Web Analytics and Statistics

Tarek helps turn mere numbers into meaningful information and practical advice. I enjoy helping my clients get excited about the data provided in tools like Google Analytics, WebTrends, or simple log files. More importantly, I enjoy helping them use the information to improve their organization's performance.

e-Mail Marketing

Tarek helps organizations establish and effectively use e-marketing techniques. I help organizations establish e-mail marketing campaigns with lists as few as a hundred subscribers to ones with more than 10,000 subscribers.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Tarek helps ensure that your content gets discovered, shared, and used. Tarek explains SEO, Google's PageRank, and related issues in non-technical terms and helps to address the issues that are keeping your content from reaching its potential.

// Background and Experience

Tarek has worked in the website field since 2000, but has academic training in economics and public policy. I offer a combination of technical expertise and substantive knowledge that provides a unique service to nonprofit organizations and the like.

Throughout my career I have maintained a close connection to the nonprofit and social sectors. I am a founding Board Member of the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network of Washington DC, served on the Board of Governors of the University of Michigan's Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy, and currently serve as a Senior Systems Analyst for the American Institutes for Research, a nonprofit social science and behavioral research organization, on a part-time basis. Additionally, I have several years of professional experience in the field of performance management, and have designed and monitored performance metrics for a variety of socially-focused programs.
